Autumn Tucker sent the game into overtime. Makayla Van Nett started it. Elaina Jones took over, and Raiyne Adams ended it, leading the St. Paul Como Park girls’ basketball team to a 69-67 nonconference victory over Minneapolis last week.
North took control early behind the outstanding play of Monique Wooten, Alani Pettis and Serena Ballard.
With two seconds remaining in the game and her team down 58-60, Tucker calmly converted two freethrows to tie the game.
Van Nett scored the last of her team-high 23 points to begin the period. Jones, who finished with 13 points, scored the Cougar’s next four points while Adams sank a freethrow with 18 seconds remaining to seal the win. She finished with 11 points.
North showed that it is making strides to compete.
Wooten slashed her way to a game-high 24 points. Pettis added 15 and Ballard chipped in 13.
