Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had the uncommon ability to articulate a vision, and then follow his words with action. Have you ever stopped to think about the community where you live and how that in itself impacts your life? What is your vision to improve your community, and are there actions you can take to make a difference?
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. believed in the power of community so strongly that he referenced it as a concept that exists at the “heart of all that civilization has meant and developed.” This is the place where people take responsibility and care for each other in a way that their actions provide a mutual benefit. And they do so voluntarily and with action so natural it is seen as an impulse.
In this community referenced by Dr. King, citizens not only think about each other, but also they take action in a way that benefits all. As we know, this is a concept that is easier said than done.
Pillsbury United Communities employees and volunteers are working every day to create the type of future where individuals and families are well and living in thriving communities right here in Minneapolis and throughout the region. We acknowledge our challenges, but remain inspired in our effort and welcome those who will work with us to build a brighter future for all.
Building thriving communities in Minneapolis takes the best effort of all involved. As gaps in learning, wellness and employment are minimized, individuals and families will benefit right along with society as a whole.
It takes the right attitude and approach followed by action. That’s the kind of approach that Dr. King would be applauding today.
